Companion/Homemaker

Companion/Homemakers provide companionship, meal preparation, and even light housekeeping. When needed, this person will shop and run errands for their client and may escort care recipients for doctor and other appointments. Companion/Homemakers don’t need certifications or licenses; this role is solely for personal care aide. This role will also assist in things such as bathing, grooming, and using the bathroom.  

Note: Companion/Homemakers pass training requirements that vary by state from none to 100 hours including some clinical training. PHI, a nonprofit that focuses on direct-care services for older people.
